The Boothby Center presents...
a WORLD COCKTAIL WEEK® event
and fundrasier for our sister organization
The Museum of the American Cocktail
When It's Cocktail Time In Cuba
with Charlotte Voisey and Philip Greene

Join us in welcoming internationally renowned mixologist Charlotte Voisey and the Museum of the American Cocktail’s Philip Greene (author of 'To Have and Have Another: The Hemingway Cocktail Companion,' to be published in 2012 by Penguin Books), as they lead us on a trip to Cuba in a lively evening of cocktails, history and folklore. They’ll take us back through the years, Cuba’s historic role in sugar cane and rum distilling, its independence from Spain, the birth of the Daiquiri and Cuba Libre, and look at the role Cuba played during Prohibition when Cuba was America's favorite playground, and Havana became the unofficial United States saloon. We'll learn about the favorite cocktails of Ernest Hemingway (seen above with Spencer Tracy), hear stories about Sloppy Joe’s, the Floridita, the Hotel Nacional, and other great venues. You’ll sample great punches, cocktails such as the Papa Doble and the El Presidente, while enjoying delicious appetizers. And you’ll get some great recipes and instructions on how to make these classics at home.

Wednesday May 11th, 7pm to 9pm
Tickets are $45 and are available at http://theboothbycenter.eventbright.com

About MOTAC and World Cocktail Week®
World Cocktail Week® was established to promote better understanding and appreciation of the art of the cocktail and its history, and responsible drinking. The date commemorates the first definition of the term Cocktail in print in the 1806 edition of The Balance and Columbian Repository. The WCW fundraiser also raises much needed revenue to help pay for museum operating costs throughout the year and for our mixology series.
The Museum of the American Cocktail (MOTAC) is a nonprofit organization which seeks to celebrate a true American cultural icon, the American Cocktail. Having roots in New Orleans, the American cocktail has influenced music, theater, art, film, and politics around the world during its two-century-old history. Founded by Dale DeGroff, and a host of the world's most passionate cocktail authorities and historians, the Museum of the American Cocktail seeks to elevate both professional and consumer knowledge of mixology through exhibits, classes and tasting sessions, as well as publications and multimedia presentations.
